Irregardless

I hate it when people use the word "irregardless." It makes them sound pretty much as dumb as a rock, and they instantly lose all credibility. It's actually a nonstandard word; it is a combination of the words "irrespective" and "regardless," though much stupider-sounding than either. If anyone out there uses "irregardless" in formal writing, I hope you "accidentally" cut your face off with a rusty chainsaw. Twice.

I knew you'd try and defend it, Chris, seeing as how it was your usage of the word in the first place that prompted this post. You'll notice I never actually said it wasn't a word. I know it's a real word. The dictionary calls it "nonstandard." I call it idiotic.

And one more thing. Just a quik note on "unravel." One of the definitions of "ravel" is "to become tangled or confused," which would make its antonym, UN-ravel, a word that means to detangle. It's a perfectly useful word, and it's not necessarily redundant.
